In an activity coordinated by the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo and the Universidad Domínico Americano (UNICDA), we received the visit of Laura Jiménez, the only Dominican Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs for the Department of State, with whom our community had the opportunity to enjoy a conversation called “CoffeeTime with Laura Jiménez: Her Success Story as a Dominican American”.

During the meeting, Ms. Jimenez recounted her experience as an immigrant to the United States at an early age and her process of learning the English language, as well as its relevance today. She also highlighted the importance of the presence and participation of the Latin American community in the development of policies related to the advancement of the region in the United States.

She also took the stage to express how proud she is of her Dominican roots and how inspired she feels about the talented youth of the country.

The activity culminated with a question and answer session in which the speaker responded about her perspective on the role of women in today’s society, the opportunities that Dominican youth have to achieve goals through the different programs of the State Department in the country, among others.
Mr. Gabriel Hurst, Spokesperson of the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo, welcomed the participants and thanked the institution for its constant collaboration in the development of this type of activities, and Dr. Laura Reyes, UNICDA’s Academic Vice Chancellor, thanked on behalf of the institution the participation of Ms. Laura Jimenez in this meeting.

The event was attended by students from UNICDA and the School of Languages, as well as teachers and academic and administrative collaborators.

We are honored to have had such a pleasant visit and to have heard this inspiring success story. We are also grateful for the great work that Mrs. Laura Jimenez does day after day for the development of the Latin American community in the United States.
